Finance Committee Welcomes New Member, Reviews Capital Plan

Finance Committee · Meeting of September 30, 2026

Abington Finance Committee welcomes new member, opens $5 million capital review. Ben Jacobs joined the board Wednesday as Finance Director Andrew presented early capital requests topping $5 million, including $1.4 million to replace a leaking Town Hall roof and $1.5 million for Library HVAC work, together about $3 million of the total. Members debated adding a budget scenario reflecting a 5 to 10 percent cut, warning a roughly $3 million operating gap could make level-service budgeting unrealistic.

The town has completed three interviews for treasurer-collector, with a hiring decision expected by week's end, and has also interviewed candidates for health director. The committee split roughly 18 town departments among members as liaisons in minutes, with the chair calling it "the quickest we've ever done," and is eyeing an October 26 joint meeting with the Select Board, with October 28 as a fallback date.
