Conservation Commission Approves Maple Street Contractor Yard, Grants Belmont Street Apartment Extension

WEST BRIDGEWATER — March 17, 2026 — West Bridgewater Conservation Commission closes public hearing on a nine-acre Maple Street contractor yard and grants a three-year permit extension for a stalled 54-unit apartment project. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to issue a waiver to work within the 50-foot buffer zone, a standard order of conditions, and a general stormwater permit for the Zero Maple Street commercial contractor yard, which will place six of the nine acres under a permanent conservation restriction through the state Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program. For Zero Belmont Street, a 40B rental apartment project originally permitted around 2018, the commission extended the order of conditions to April 16, 2029 — three years rather than the two requested — after members noted that the construction timeline itself runs approximately two years and a shorter extension would require the applicant to return mid-build. Representative Walter told the commission that no physical work has yet been done on the Belmont Street land, with activity to date confined to engineering plans and regulatory modifications before the Board of Health and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
