Halifax Conservation Commission Approves Solar Array, New Home Near Monponsett Pond
HALIFAX — May 12, 2026 — Halifax Conservation Commission approves solar array, lakeside home, and a 20 percent fee hike at May 12 meeting. The commission unanimously approved an RDA for a 1.5-megawatt solar array at 69 Summit Street, finding that all proposed work would remain at least 65 feet from bordering vegetated wetlands, with the power to be sold back to the municipality. The commission also approved an NOI for a new single-family home at 59 Paradise Road within the buffer zone to Monponsett Pond, over neighbors' design concerns that the chair redirected to the Zoning Board: "As far as the Conservation Commission is concerned, our concern is up to 100 feet — it's conservation and the effects on the lake." Conservation Agent Peggy Selter's fee comparison of eight nearby communities showed Halifax at the low to middle range, prompting a unanimous vote to raise fees by roughly 20 percent — from $75 to $100 on at least one benchmark category — subject to town administrator or Select Board approval. A tree-topping hearing at 399 Elm Street and both Amanda's Way duplex hearings were continued to the May 26 meeting, with the Elm Street matter awaiting a formal arborist report on up to 28 oversized pine trees that could fall on the owner's home.
