Halifax ZBA Approves Three Petitions, Delays Cedar Lane Lot Ruling to July
HALIFAX — June 8, 2026 — Halifax Zoning Board approves three applications, delays Cedar Lane decision for a third time. The board voted unanimously Monday to approve a replacement dwelling at 59 Paradise Lane, a 1,440-square-foot garage special permit at 424 Thompson Street for applicant CJ Mallet, and a combined accessory dwelling unit and garage proposal at 173 Oak Street submitted by Rebecca O'Donnell. The Paradise Lane project, represented by Michael Edwards of Syllabus Engineering Associates on behalf of applicant Bastetikas, received approval for a 1,566-square-foot dwelling at 21 feet tall — down from an initially proposed 28 feet — with an attached 322-square-foot garage that the board preferred over a detached configuration that would have blocked neighbors' lake views. The Cedar Lane case, ZBA-26-2, was continued to July 13 after board members acknowledged they had failed to obtain a town counsel opinion on whether an "unbuildable" notation in the assessor's records carries any legal weight over the ZBA's authority, with one member saying, "I'm sorry that I didn't take it further with the legal issue."
