HALIFAX — The Halifax Planning Board voted unanimously to continue its site plan review of the proposed 267 Monponsett Street Senior Center and extended the application's statutory decision deadline to December 10, 2026. Civil engineer Josh White of J.D. Civil and the project's architect, identified only as Danny, told the board the $3.08 million, 3,400-square-foot building requires 34 parking spaces, a 5,000-gallon gravity septic system, and roughly two feet of fill before construction. A first round of bids had come in near $5 million before the building committee cut scope to fit the budget; a kitchen was moved to a priced bid alternate.
Plymouth Street resident Tina Alger said, "This is for my seniors in town," pressing the board not to sign off without kitchen cost details. Board members also said developer Thorndike has not paid promised per-unit mitigation funds since a 2023 agreement despite roughly 27 units sold.
