Planning Board OKs fire station addressing plan
Planning Board · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Abington Planning Board clears fire station addressing plan, stalls a $96,197.50 bond reduction on long-unfinished McHugh Circle. The board, chaired by Bruce Hughes, unanimously approved a town-filed Form A plan and waived its fee so the new fire station can get its own postal address, with building committee chairman Sean Riley explaining the post office forced the filing. Engineering consultant Dave Johnson had recommended cutting the town's McHugh Circle surety from $96,197.50 to $54,000, but members continued the request, noting the subdivision "has been going on for 20-some-odd years" and remains tied to the unfinished Robert English Way.
The board also approved, with conditions, an accessory dwelling unit at 720 Hancock Street, flagging that Abington's active water moratorium generally caps new ADUs at one bedroom even though this unit has two.
