School Committee 2026-09-29 Part 2 · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Abington School Committee adopts a teen dating violence policy and renames its finance director. The committee unanimously approved Policy JICFC, a state-required teen dating violence policy modeled on language from the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, and retitled Sarah Ganey from director to executive director of finance and operations with no change in pay or duties. Members also approved a Washington, D.C. trip for 169 eighth graders, costing about $969 per student, from June 10-12, 2027, after a member flagged "a lot of confusion" around low turnout last year.
Caroline Ellis was selected as the district's delegate to November's joint MASC-superintendents conference. The committee also approved disposing of obsolete school property, with Ganey confirming laptops are "1,000 percent" wiped of data before disposal, and thanked Deputy Police Chief Jeff Postel for donating $125 in Dolly Parton-themed books marking the department's 125th anniversary.
