Scituate Conservation Commission Clears Town Water Main Work, Orders Deck Conditions at Condo Site

SCITUATE — May 4, 2026 — Scituate Conservation Commission issued a negative determination for two municipal water main replacement projects and closed a hearing on deck additions at a 17-unit condominium development. The four-member commission, chaired by Frank, voted unanimously Monday to clear an RDA filed by the town for water main work along Clap Road and the Oceanside Drive avenues, requiring that dewatering provisions and mobile settling tanks be added to construction bid documents given the proximity of wetlands along the route. Sean McCarthy of the town and wetlands consultant Greg Russo of Weston and Sampson presented the project; Russo confirmed all work stays within the paved road right-of-way and that no resource areas would be directly impacted. The commission also voted unanimously to close and issue amended orders of conditions for 279-281 Old Oaken Bucket Road, where developer Eric Pontiff of EJP LLC is adding wooden decks to the rear of units in a 40B condominium project; member Eric pressed for deck board spacing minimums and pervious sub-surface requirements to be codified in the condominium association's governing documents to survive future ownership changes. A one-year extension of orders of conditions was granted to the Toll Brothers Seaside at Scituate project at 148 Hatherly Road, and the Zero Surfside hearing — continued for the third time — was pushed to May 18.
