Wareham Finance Committee approves $54,000 in year-end transfers
Finance Committee · Meeting of July 15, 2026
Wareham Finance Committee approves $54,000 in year-end transfers, presses for Town Meeting reforms. Administrator Robert Sullivan presented the fiscal 2026 interdepartmental package, including $4,200 shifted from treasurer to assessor salaries, which the committee approved unanimously after members tallied the total to "$54,000." Clerk Alan H. Slavin said "I'd say 70 percent of the people who come to town meeting have no clue what it is, what the rules are," proposing voter-education classes with the town moderator.
Member Bernard Pigeon said he was "very, very disappointed" that the sewer commissioners gave the Select Board a formal presentation on three Town Meeting articles while the Finance Committee got what he called "probably an afterthought." Members also debated whether a sewer department employee, identified only as Scott, should have fielded policy questions in the commissioners' place, and discussed the committee's continuing struggle to recruit a new member.
