Brockton Approves Synthetic Turf Field at Snow Park

Conservation · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Brockton conservation board clears decade-delayed Snow Park turf field. The Conservation Commission voted unanimously to issue an order of conditions for a synthetic turf soccer field at Snow Park after three meetings of review with consultant Weston & Sampson, requiring testing of all turf components for 40 PFAS compounds before installation and use of an organic "Brockfill" infill rather than rubber crumb. Mayor Rodriguez told the board the city "cannot afford to have a gazillion fields," citing semi-professional youth teams now forced to play outside Brockton for lack of a suitable home field.

The commission also approved a 500-gallon diesel fuel tank within a wetland buffer zone at 127 Liberty Street for new owner Barnhart Crane and Rigging, whose operations manager David White said the company has "an impeccable safety record" across 60 branches nationally. Separately, the board denied a certificate of compliance at a Davis Commons property on Dunbar Street after two stormwater basins were found chronically flooded by rising groundwater.
