Conservation Commission Closes Commercial Case, Continues Bryant Street Subdivision Fight

West Bridgewater Conservation Commission approves two septic upgrades, closes commercial filing, and continues a disputed 13-lot subdivision over wetland buffer concerns. The commission granted negative three determinations with conditions for septic replacements at 18 Aldridge Road, where engineer David Clinton of Colin Civil Engineering described a 1960s-era system being proactively replaced by the Turner family, and at 234 South Elm Street, where engineer Daren McGill of Foresight Engineering proposed moving a failed 1980 system to the front yard to avoid the wetland-encircled backyard. The commission also voted to close the hearing and issue a standard order of conditions and a general stormwater permit for Colvia Enterprises LLC's 506 West Center Street commercial project, with attorney Danielle Default calling it "a strange position for me" to hope not to see the board again.

The most contentious item was the zero Bryant Street subdivision proposed by developer Charlie Macy: a Homegrown Engineering representative told the commission that the original Bryant Street road alignment was physically impossible due to flat 66-foot elevations across the site, and that the South Street alternative — though it encroaches roughly 3,000 square feet into the 50-foot wetland buffer — offers a five-to-one buffer zone restoration trade-off of 95,000 square feet reclaimed against 14,000 square feet disturbed. Conservation Agent Tim said the commission has never previously approved a new-construction wetland fill and continued the hearing to April 7, 2026.
