Wareham Panel Advances Plan To Sell Decas School

Finance Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026

Wareham Finance Committee defers votes, hears push to sell vacant Decas School. Town Administrator Derek Sullivan told the panel the 16-acre former elementary school, vacant since a 2022 town meeting rejected a reuse plan, is now "a negative" draining the budget, and asked for authority to seek buyers or a long-term lease, with proceeds required to rebuild displaced youth ball fields. Vice Chair Brianna King and member Bernard Pigeon pressed him to guarantee no gap between losing current fields and opening replacements; Pigeon said "there's no gap here between the soccer." The committee also reviewed a combined $1.8 million police radio overhaul and heard resident Marie Gregg's written objection to a parking zoning article the Planning Board opposed 4-0.

No warrant-article votes were taken; the committee approved its September 21 minutes unanimously and will vote on all five articles October 5.
