Hanson Conservation Commission Approves Liberty Street Commercial Project With Conditions
HANSON — June 1, 2026 — Hanson Conservation Commission unanimously approved a Notice of Intent for a two-building commercial development at 84 Liberty Street, while deferring a residential garage project at 372 Whitman Street pending zoning review. The commission, meeting Monday with three of five members present, approved the Liberty Street project — two 7,400-square-foot buildings with subsurface stormwater systems proposed by applicant Timothy McQuarrie — with an order of conditions contingent on Zoning Board of Appeals approval; a ZBA hearing was set for the following night. The panel also granted a variance for temporary excavation within the 50-foot no-touch buffer zone required for retaining wall construction, reaching a depth of roughly seven feet. A Notice of Intent for a 40-by-60-foot garage at 372 Whitman Street, involving 937 square feet of wetland fill and 1,416 square feet of replication planting, was continued to July 1 after Commissioner Frank Skellinger flagged unresolved peer review comments and a potential setback conflict arising from the parcel's dual street frontages on Whitman and King streets. The commission also approved a certificate of compliance for 988 East Washington Street covering a completed septic installation, and continued a wetland delineation hearing for 248 East Washington Street to June 15 while awaiting a peer reviewer report that has gone unanswered for three to four weeks.
